Major cost savings for insurers through outright denial or reduced settlements in cases involving suspected fraudulent claims.
On October 7, 2005, the insurance department for the state of California passed a mandate requiring all California insurance carrier’s to have an SIU unit or division in place and operational by the end of 2005. Many of the carriers decided to create their own in house SIU fraud unit from within their own ranks. An effective and competent S.I.U. has a frequent and ongoing need for independent video and should be using the videotaped forensic services I offer in the following areas:
. Suspected fraud in Commercial Personal Lines, Workers’ Compensation, Homeowners’ and Health Insurance.
. Examination under oath aka e/u/o. This is closely related to the videotaping of Depositions.
. Forensic examinations of autos, boats, houses, specialty vehicles, documents, etc.
. Incident reconstructions.
. Individuals at the damage property pointing out how and when damage to their property occurred and what
they observed
. Key depositions such as witnesses.
. Professional consultation with lawyers representing the insurance companies to prevent bias in the
videotaping of key witnesses by “adverse” videographers.
. Production of “in-house” communication and training videos for insurance companies that do not have their
own video production capabilities.
. Production of videos for the insurance companies to use for consumer education.
The videotaping is introduced as evidence. Its admissibility is ruled on by the judge, and its weight is judged by the jury after they view it. Therefore I will preserve the Chain of Evidence and the Chain of Custody. With the S.I.U. personnel, the attorney they use, and the prosecutor we will follow several procedures in obtaining and preserving this evidence.
